Warehouse managers are responsible for the overall operations of warehouses. planning deliveries and dispatch of stock allocating space for storing goods.
keeping track of stock levels using computer systems and ensuring correct storage of stock - there are regulations to be followed for storing items such as chemicals, alcohol and food.
Warehouse managers also plan work schedules for warehouse operatives and supervisors, organise recruitment and training, are responsible for health and safety, and deal with disciplinary issues.
They make sure that security arrangements are adequate and security procedures are carried out correctly.
Other duties include scheduling the maintenance, repair and replacement of equipment and buildings, and liaising with other departments such as transport, production and marketing.
Most warehouse managers usually work 37 to 40 hours a week involving shift work, unsocial hours and possibly overtime during busy periods.
The work is both office and warehouse-based.
There are opportunities for employment in the UK with a wide range of manufacturing and retail companies, including engineering, textiles, food and chemicals.Experienced warehouse managers can earn between 22,000 and 28,000 a year. (Permalink)
