Sound Technician Current Vacancies

photo of Sound Technician 2006-12-23:

Sound technicians, operators use technical equipment to record, amplify, mix and monitor sound.
In film and TV, technicians are part of a sound crew which includes the sound supervisor, production mixer, the boom operator and sound assistant. Sound technicians, operators work irregular hours.
In television, they work in large, enclosed, soundproofed studios. Radio studios are smaller.
Most people working in the production side of the industry work on a freelance basis.
Some sound operators work for TV and radio simultaneously.
The route to promotion in large organisations would be from sound assistant, to sound technician, operator and then to sound supervisor.
Most freelancers start as boom operators and then become freelance sound recordists for location work.
Those working in dubbing theatres, where sound is mixed together to create a final product, would progress from sound assistant to sound mixer
Sound assistants earn around 14,000 per year.
Sound operators, technicians annual income is normally over 20,000. Sound supervisors usually earn 30,000 or more.Minimum freelance salary rates for studio drama would range from around 475 per week for a sound assistant to nearly 1,100 for a sound supervisor. On a location documentary, a sound assistant could expect to be paid 50-60 per day, a sound recordist, 180-220. (Permalink)
