Lunchtime supervisors work in primary, secondary and special schools.

Duties include the supervision of pupils in the dining hall, playground and school premises, including the toilets and cloakrooms.

At mealtimes supervisors may have to help some children cut up their food as well as providing some social training for the children in terms of good table manners.

They deal with children who misbehave, caution them and ensure the maintenance of good order.

Work as a lunchtime supervisor is part-time, daily between 12 noon and 1.30pm.
Supervisors are only employed during term time and there is no work during holidays when the school is closed.

Lunchtime supervisors are employed at schools all over the country either directly by a headteacher or by the local education authority.

Parents, or individuals known to staff at the school, may be asked whether they wish to become supervisors.

In larger schools there is the opportunity to progress to senior supervisor level or teaching assistant.

Vacancies may be advertised in local newspapers, jobcentres, in local authority job bulletins, which are available in libraries and other public offices and on the recruitment website for local government.

School lunchtime supervisors usually earn between 5.00 and 6.50 an hour. (Permalink)
