Pharmacist Current Vacancies

Pharmacists specialise in the area of drugs and medicine.
They work in a variety of settings, usually beginning their career in an NHS
community or hospital pharmacy.
Community pharmacists work in a retail environment, preparing medicines ordered
on prescription or bought over-the-counter.
Hospital pharmacists prepare and supply medication, check labels and
prescriptions, and advise on the dosage and administration of drugs.
Hospital pharmacist
You'll be working alongside specialists, doctors, nurses and patients in
clinical areas.
When the patient leaves hospital, the pharmacist might then liaise with their
GP.
For example, you might become a clinical director, running the hospital's
pharmacy staff and managing areas such as pharmacy, pathology and radiology.
Senior pharmacists may be involved in supervising pre-registration trainees and
junior pharmacists.
Industrial pharmacists research and develop new medicines, carry out
experiments, evaluate results, produce reports and make recommendations.
Industrial pharmacist Pharmacists are needed to develop them.
Primary care pharmacist - Primary care pharmacists operate at a senior level in
the healthcare system.
Regulatory pharmacy - Regulatory pharmacists work for Government bodies such as
the MHRA set up to help protect public health. You need critical evaluation
skills for this branch of the profession.
Academic pharmacy
Teacher practitioners spend on average around 60% of their time working in
hospital, community or industrial pharmacy and the other 40% of the time as a
pharmacy teacher or lecturer. As a research pharmacist you will enjoy a
rewarding and satisfying career, knowing your work is helping improve countless
lives.
Royal Army Medical Corps
Wherever you find the British Army, you will find the Army Medical Services (AMS).
The AMS brings together the Royal Army Medical Corps (RAMC), the Royal Army
Veterinary Corps (RAVC), the Royal Army Dental Corps (RADC) and The Queen
Alexandra's Royal Army Nursing Corps (QARANC). Pharmacists can be commissioned
into the RAMC as Pharmacist officers either as direct entry qualified candidates
or via sponsorship. Moreover, RAMC Pharmacist officers may be employed in
support of the Royal Navy (RN) or Royal Air Force (RAF).
In peacetime The Pharmacist Officer's main roles are in the distribution of
medical supplies to support current operations and overseas units; the provision
of pharmaceutical care within Service hospital units working alongside their
civilian colleagues; and in the provision of pharmacy support to GPs at primary
care level. In Field Hospitals, they provide pharmacy support and advice to the
Commanding Officer. What you need A recognised degree in pharmacy.
Veterinary Pharmacy - What do veterinary pharmacists do?
Pharmacists in rural settings are often involved in helping the farming industry
by supplying medicines for farm livestock.
Where can veterinary pharmacy take me?
Veterinary pharmacy can also take you into teaching, industry or a government
body such as the Veterinary Medicines Directorate
Pharmacists can also work within health authorities, for wholesalers, in
universities, for research institutes, in food production, and the chemical
industry.
All pharmacists maintain records and ensure the laws controlling medicines are
observed.
Hospital pharmacists will work 37.5 hours a week.
Industrial pharmacists normally work 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.
Some pharmacists go on to teach, others work as locums filling temporary,
holiday posts.Pre-registration pharmacy graduates, and sandwich degree students, working in
approved pre-registration training posts in the NHS can expect a salary of
around 14,200 a year.
Experienced pharmacists can expect to earn between 25,000 and 42,000.
Industrial pharmacists start at around 22,000 and can earn over 60,000.
