Librarians plan, organise and manage library resources and services.
They can work in school or college libraries, public or academic libraries, or learning resource centres.
Librarians working in a commercial setting are often called information managers.
Librarians are responsible for the day-to-day running of library services and the role depends on the size and function of the library.
leading and motivating a team of library staff - cataloguing, classifying and indexing stock - managing information technology in a library context, eg designing search facilities -
Academic librarians may also: deliver information skills sessions to students - develop resources for research projects.
School librarians would work typical school hours 8am to 4pm, Monday to Friday. Librarians are usually located at a single library but some may work in the community in mobile libraries or on cross-site projects where driving would be essential.
Although the majority work in public library services but opportunities in the private sector are increasing.
National or local public libraries have a formal promotion structure.
In larger libraries, you can be promoted to senior posts with management responsibilities, or be given responsibility for a specialist service or collection.
Chartered librarians could earn 22,000 to 30,000.
Information managers commercial sector may earn between 25,000 and 35,000.
Senior academic librarians could earn 33,000 to 40,000. London weighting may increase salaries. (Permalink)

It all revolves round the Integrated Library System (ILS). We are leading the work on how the Library can gain more revenue streams. Team: Marketing Operations. WRVS Helping older people in the communities get more out of life

2008-03-26: Together with WRVS employees they deliver professional services with a personal touch. WRVS works in partnership with the Army to support single and unaccompanied service personnel in the UK and abroad. Working together with local library service, the home library service can help if someone is unable to visit in person: a friendly volunteer will bring a selection of books, videos and audio tapes to older people in their home. Our shops, cafes and trolleys serve patients, staff and visitors - and raise funds for much-needed equipment, plus help support our volunteers and work in communities. WRVS emergency services are recognised as leaders in the field of emergency support training and currently deliver emergency support training to local authorities, companies and on behalf of the Cabinet Office's emergency planning college. Courses are delivered by two trained and experienced WRVS emergency services managers with input from your local authority emergency planning officer. We help to change lives. safe working environment It is published twice a year and is packed with news about WRVS projects, volunteers and the people who benefit from our services. Emergency response teams - How many volunteers do you have?
