Health Records Clerk Current Vacancies

Health records clerks create, maintain, file and retrieve documents relating to patients.

Some records are maintained manually but it is also common for health records clerks to use computerised databases and spreadsheets.

The main areas are filing, dministration, outpatient reception and admissions.

It is also possible to specialise in clinical coding which involves coding clinical data using statistical classifications.

Health records clerks often communicate with the public and medical professionals both face to face and over the telephone.

Health records clerks work 37 hours, Monday to Friday.

In some hospitals especially those with accident and emergency departments a full 24-hour service is provided which involves shift work, and maybe permanent night work.

There are usually opportunities for part-time work.
They work in offices, reception areas, filing rooms, medical records libraries or wards.

Most work is in hospitals. Work can also be found in GP surgeries, private hospitals and HM Forces.

The availability of vacancies and the degree of competition for jobs varies in different parts of the country.
There may be opportunities to work abroad.

Health records clerks will start on 11,500 to 12,500 a year.
Experienced clerks earn between 12,000 and 14,700 a year.
Clinical coding specialists earn between 13,500 and 19,000 a year. (Permalink)
