Technicians in education support staff teaching science, IT and Design and Technology in schools and colleges by preparing equipment and materials and assisting in practical lessons.

delivering, setting up and checking equipment - putting away equipment after lessons - organising, storing and stocktaking of equipment - repairing, maintaining and modifying equipment administrative tasks.

Specific duties and responsibilities will vary depending on the institution.

Technicians may be involved in preparing basic experiments in primary schools or the early years of secondary education or advanced experiments in universities.

Working hours are usually 9am to 4pm, but many technicians working in education work part-time.
Many technicians work in term-time only.

Working conditions can vary, but much time is spent in a laboratory, IT room and preparation room based within schools, colleges or universities.

Technicians may work alone or in a small team.
There are schools and colleges employing technicians across the country, as well as universities.

Full-time technicians earn around 12,000 to 15,000 a year.
