Designer - designers develop concepts for games, including the structure, playability, sound, interface, coding, modelling and graphics.
They must consider the impact their designs will have on the work of games artists and programmers.
Graphic Artist - graphic artists work with the game's appearance, giving the backgrounds, characters and the interaction a visually rich appearance. Audio, Sound Engineer - games audio, sound engineers create sound effects, character voice-overs and musical scores for games.
They work with programmers to ensure effects required by designers can be incorporated into a game.
They may also work with composers to produce musical scores for games.
Programmer - programmers translate the design team's ideas into a finished product.
They develop software tools for artists and designers to use, design and build game engines and debugging programs to optimise game performance, and some specialise in developing the artificial intelligence techniques commonly used in games.
Tester, Quality Assurance Technician - testers work with programmers and producers to identify problems during game development.
Many computer games firms offer structured career paths for all disciplines within games development.
