Army officers lead and manage a team of trained soldiers.
Many overseas operations nowadays involve peacekeeping and humanitarian roles.
The army is formed of regiments and corps, divided into:
the Combat Support Arms - provide artillery, field engineering, signals and intelligence support, whilst fighting in close support of the Combat Arms.
the Services - provide a range of essential support services to the other Arms, for example, administration, transport and logistics, catering, technical engineering and medical care.
Officers who carry out their own professions include nursing, medical and dental officers, barristers and solicitors, veterinary surgeons and chaplains.
Hours vary depending on the situation. Army officers may work daytime hours or shifts.
Army officers are stationed in the UK and overseas and they are trained to work in a wide range of conditions and situations.
Promotion is from second lieutenant through lieutenant, captain, major, lieutenant colonel and beyond. Lieutenants earn 25,605 to 28,298 a year. Captains earn 32,810 to 39,018 a year. (Permalink)

Territorial Army Soldier

2007-02-22: The Specialist Units Royal Engineers Territorial Army is the Territorial Army's main source of specialist engineering expertise covering most areas of civil, electrical and mechanical engineering. The focus for the Specialist Units within the Royal Engineers is the TA Component of 170 (Infrastructure Support) Engineer Group.
Required Skills/Experience: To become a Soldier in the Specialist RE TA you will need a relevant civilian qualification. If you are a civilian engineer, technician or tradesman who has qualifications in mechanical, electrical or civil engineering, or more specialist qualifications within the oil and fuels industry there are plenty of opportunities to use your civilian expertise in the Specialist RE TA.
Required Qualifications: Assessment for suitability focuses on the following civilian qualifications: City and Guilds, NVQs, SNVQs, BTECs, HND and Engineering Degrees.
