Alexander Technique practitioner Current Vacancies
2006-11-27:
An Alexander Technique practitioner teaches people to improve their posture and
co-ordination to help bring about an improvement in their physical and mental
well-being.
They teach clients how to eliminate unnecessary muscular tension or poor
posture, and so help to prevent or alleviate associated conditions. An
improvement of head, neck and back co-ordination generally leads to improvements
in health, fitness and general well-being.
Some clients may consult a practitioner because of physical problems such as
back, neck or shoulder pain, stress, vocal or breathing disorders. Others want
to learn the technique for personal development.
Alexander Technique practitioners usually work in a health clinic or therapeutic
environment, or in a clients own home.
Although still relatively small, the Alexander Technique represents a growing
profession and around 2,500 practitioners are currently registered with the
STAT.
Practitioners are usually self-employed.
Some work from home, and others practice in natural health clinics, sharing with
other practitioners of complementary medicine.
Prospects will depend on both local demand and personal ability.
Treatment is still very personal and reputations are made by recommendation,
successful diagnosis and treatment.
Most practitioners are self-employed and incomes vary considerably.
A newly qualified Alexander Technique practitioner would receive about 12,000 a
year.
Practitioners working in large practices could earn 35,000 year.
