Plymouth is half an hour's drive south, mostly across the heather and the gorse of Roborough Down, the City's large and very beautiful back garden. In the other direction, a few miles away is Tavistock, whilst one of the treasures of the West Dartmoor also boasts meadowlands with its Leisure Pool. Nearby, there are other historic Devonshire villages and hamlets with names such as Sampford Spiney, Buckland Monachorum and Milton Combe where ancient churches and bridges and a variety of pubs and tea can be found.
